The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) was established in 1958 as an autonomous non-profit organisation for the purpose of providing religious education and Christian formation for Catholic children in public schools. CCD is known as our Special Religious Education (SRE) program in public schools and is an Ecclesial Organisation of the Archdiocese of Sydney. The CCD is currently responsible for the training and support of over 1900 volunteers who teach Special Religious Education classes each week in public schools. There are over 70,000 Catholic students in non-Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Sydney. Approximately 30,000 of these students, in over 300 schools, are reached through the generosity and commitment of the catechists.
